On his Twitter account, Rodriguez pointed out that while from Florida those politicians promote a ‘humanitarian intervention’ in Cuba, the US has accumulated 2.6 million Covid-19 cases and 39,000 deaths.
Last week, the number of Covid-19 contagions in Florida increased by 50 percent, alarming US health authorities and generating new debates about the use of the facemask.
According to Marc Lotter, of the Florida Hospital Association, more people are currently in hospitals than at any other time during the pandemic, while The Hill informed that Florida was among the three states with the highest number of contagions in the country.
However, politicians from that region encourage campaigns to promote a ‘humanitarian intervention’, under the pretext of the rise in Covid-19 cases in Cuba.
Rodriguez has repeatedly denounced that Washington used the health emergency as an ally in its purpose to destroy the Revolution, as it took advantage of the context to tighten the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba. Of all 243 unilateral coercive measures adopted by the Donald Trump administration (2017-2021), 50 of them were implemented during the pandemic, which not only suffocates the country’s economy, but also hampers the health response to Covid-19.
The impossibility to purchase lung ventilators and the difficulties to acquire medicines, medical and laboratory supplies, denounced in Cuba’s report to the United Nations on the necessity to put an end to the US blockade, are among the examples.
