Slated for September 2, 2022, filming of the first season (eight episodes) recently concluded in New Zealand, where film-maker Peter Jackson shot The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King and the three films about The Hobbit.

The company’s announcement was accompanied by the first official image of the series, which takes place thousands of years before the events narrated in The Hobbit and the books by J.R.R. Tolkien.

The new production is set in the Second Age of Middle Earth, with a deployment of technology, locations and costumes, valued at more than 460 million dollars, more than the Game of Thrones series, which has become a ‘global phenomenon.’

In this sense, the film will emulate the success of similar productions and the films that preceded it, which have won a total of 17 Oscars, including eleven for the third film.

For its part, Tolkien’s novels were chosen as the favorite book of the millennium by Amazon customers in 1999 and favorite novel of all time in the UK on BBC’s The Big Read in 2003.
