The death toll since the pandemic broke out in the states south of the great African desert totaled 170,998 after 2,413 people died of the disease on Sunday, the CPCE reported.
However, the most critical index was contagions, which during the period reported by the CDPC reached 110,533, an unprecedented figure for the sub-Saharan countries and indicative that the new variants of the coronavirus became real in the region for scientists’ concern.
There have been signs of an expansion of the disease for several weeks, during which the Covid-19 death and contagions have increased unabated.
If the experts’ concern materializes, the world would be facing a humanitarian, economic and political crisis in Africa for which there is no short-term solution.
