According to the communique from the Central Military District, the number of combat teams that will participate in the maneuvers, 20 kilometers from the Afghan border, will be doubled as well. A total of 420 Russian units, made up of military and special equipment, will be involved in the joint drills.
The document stated that, in general, the drills will involve 2,500 military personnel and around 500 military equipment from the three countries.
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu pointed out in Dushanbe Moscow’s willingness to cooperate with the protection of the territories of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in the face of instability in Afghanistan and the threat posed by the conflict for the neighboring nations.
