Arnous, an engineer who hails from the Idlib’s northern province, has held several positions until 2011, including governor of the provinces of Deir Ezzor and Quneitra, as well as Minister of Public Works and Housing from 2013 to 2018.
The PM also headed the ministerial portfolio of Water Resources from 2018 to August 30, 2020, the date of his assignment as Chief Executive.
Under the Syrian Constitution, the government became interim after President Al-Assad was sworn on July 17.
Syrians, according to polls, expect the new government to work to mitigate the US blockade impact as well as the EU economic sanctions, which generated shortages of hydrocarbons, bread and other foodstuffs, in addition to long hours of blackouts.
