UN high representative warns about educational inequality

United Nations, Jul 30 (Prensa Latina) UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed on Friday warned that the coronavirus-generated crisis leads to greater educational inequality and an increased child labor and marriage.

In her video message to World Summit on Education, Mohammed noted that an effective recovery from the pandemic requires some investments in teacher training, e-learning, and in systems better suited to future education.

Now we are amid an educational crisis: a year ago over 90% of global students (about 1.6 billion young people) did not go to school, she detailed.

Unfortunately, it is possible that nearly 25 million children and adolescents will never go to school.

As Mohammed recalled, education is pivotal to the 2030 Agenda, as a human right, a global good public and as the foundation for more inclusive, resilient and sustainable societies.
