Every July 30, Cuba commemorates the anniversary, declared by agreement of the Council of Ministers on July 26, 1959.
The date coincides with the day in which young revolutionaries Frank Pais and Raul Pujol were assassinated in 1957.
It also synthesizes the tribute to more than 20,000 Cubans who lost their lives in the struggle to overthrow the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista (1952-1958), continuity of those who started the fight for independence from Spain in 1868.
