Dr. Francisco Duran, national director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), informed that although this is not the highest figure reported in Cuba, the epidemiological situation once again continues to be very complex.
At his regular press briefing on television, Dr. Duran stated that 8,591 of the new patients are autochthonous cases and 16 are imported.
The expert noted that 68 people died on Wednesday due to complications related to the disease, so the death toll increased to 2,628.
Dr. Duran explained that 85,289 active patients are in hospitals or homes nationwide, including 37,496 suspected cases, 3,734 under epidemiological surveillance and 44,059 active patients with the coronavirus.
To date, 43,719 patients are clinically stable, 146 are in a critical condition and 197 are seriously ill.
Cuba’s chief epidemiologist warned about high figures among pediatric patients, including 1,393 minors who were reported with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours and 19,077 who were diagnosed in the last 15 days.
The expert said that 8,073 patients were discharged from hospitals on Wednesday, so the number of recuperated patients rose to 320,242.
