Cuba rejects statement by European Union high representative

Havana, Jul 29 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Thursday rejected statements by the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, on the disturbances reported in the country on July 11.

In a message posted on his Twitter account, the Cuban foreign minister dismissed the statement released by the group, which obviates mentioning by name the US blockade against the island, he said.

‘I strongly reject statement by the EU High Representative in which he dares not mention by name the genocidal US blockade that violates European sovereignty and imposes its laws and courts on it. About #Cuba, he lies and manipulates,’ she wrote.

Rodriguez called on the representative to address the brutal police repression in the European Union.

In a statement released Thursday, the bloc of 27 member States showed ‘unequivocal support’ for the participants in the July 11 riots, while demanding the release of the detainees.

The text considered ‘a good step in the right direction’ the lifting of restrictions for travelers to enter unlimited amounts of food and medicines to Cuba. At the same time, it referred to the need for ‘political and economic reforms and sustainable growth’ and considered useful the ‘easing of external restrictions, including remittances and travel’.

However, the statement ignores the accusations from Cuba that link the Government of the state of Florida and other entities with the financing and promotion of thousands of false news and manipulation in the networks to achieve a social explosion in the country.

Cuban authorities linked the disturbances to a political-communication crusade involving media laboratories based in the United States, according to the Foreign Minister’s own denunciation.

Likewise, the Government of Havana recognized the impact of Washington’s economic blockade as the main cause for the current crisis in the country.
