The foreign minister also held telephone conversations with leaders of the Arab League, the African Union, the Organization for Islamic Cooperation, and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Jerandi, said in a statement published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on social network Facebook, that the exceptional measures taken by the president, Kais Saied, meet the demands of the population and help ease tensions.

The minister highlighted the president’s desire to respect the Constitution and guarantee all rights and freedoms, at the same time he specified that ‘ dangers threatening the Tunisian state and its institutions will be eradicated’.

Saied surprised on Sunday by ordering the cessation of the prime minister, and the suspension of the Assembly of People’s Representatives, as well as the withdrawal with immediate effect of parliamentary immunity of all representatives to, as he broadcast, recover social peace and save Tunisia and society.

Most parties described such action as a coup d’état and demanded that the functions of Parliament continue.
