‘Our tribute to Cuba, the country with most sharing people in the world, on the 68th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Barracks that started the Cuban Revolution in 1953. Glory to Fidel and the revolutionary combatants!,’ Morales tweeted.
On July 26, 1953, 120 young people led by Fidel Castro simultaneously attacked the Moncada barracks, in Santiago de Cuba, and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes garrison, in Bayamo, which were symbols of the repressive forces of Fulgencio Batista’s dictatorship.
Although the action was a failure from the military point of view, historians agree that it was an important strategic step in showing the armed struggle as the only way to overthrow the regime.
