Cuba’s National Rebelliousness Day celebrated in Crimea

Moscow, Jul 26 (Prensa Latina) The Russian Society of Friendship with Cuba in Crimea celebrated the anniversary of the Attack on the Moncada Garrison, in Santiago de Cuba, an action that took place under the leadership of Fidel Castro on July 26, 1953.

The date is considered Cuba’s Day of National Rebelliousness due to its historic significance for the armed struggle that overthrew the ruling military dictatorship in the country on January 1, 1959.

The Society’s activists in Crimea laid wreaths in front of the monument to Fidel Castro, leader of the attack on the Moncada Garrison and the Cuban revolutionary process, in the city of Olenevka, in the Black Sea, a work unveiled on August 5, 2017.

During the event, Irina Kiviko, head of the regional organization and Deputy Prime Minister in that Russian Republic, highlighted the importance of celebrating the anniversary along with the Cuban people.

She underlined the Society’s solidarity with the Cubans who support the path defended by their Government to protect the Revolution’s achievements, and overcome the economic difficulties caused by the United States blockade and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kiviko, who is also the minister of Finance of the Republic of Crimea, also informed about the Society’s initiative to erect a monument in tribute to the 95th anniversary of the birth of Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, on June 14, 2023, and in honor of the friendship between Russia and Cuba.
