The two planes took off from the Chkalovsky airfield outside Moscow carrying 88.8 tons of supreme-quality wheat flour, one million disposable face masks, canned food and first-class refined sunflower oil to Havana, officials from the Russian Embassy in Cuba confirmed. During the reception ceremony, Cuban Minister of Domestic Trade Betsy Diaz thanked Russia on behalf of the Cuban people, Party and authorities.
Díaz added that Cuba was doubly grateful for this donation ‘because our country is going through complex moments in the fight against Covid-19.
The reception was also attended by Russian Ambassador to Cuba Andrei Guskov, who stressed that this humanitarian aid comes amid a complex situation, when Cuba is currently facing the consequences of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade, as well as the Covid-19 pandemic.
Guskov said that Russia is working together with Cuba to meet the specific needs of medicines, one of the most deficient issues, and another load of aid will be sent in the coming days.
