Iraq’s Prime Minister to demand withdrawal of US troops

Baghdad, Jul 25 (Prensa Latina) The Prime Minister of Iraq, Mustafa al Kazemi, traveled to the United States on Sunday, where he will demand the withdrawal of US troops from his country.

This was stated during an interview with the Saudi website Hadath, in which he specified that there is no need for foreign military on Iraqi soil.

However, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal assured that nothing will change regarding the stay of US troops.

Al Kazemi is scheduled to meet on Monday with US President Joe Biden, according to a report from the US State Department, during which they will discuss the bilateral strategic partnership.

The New York Times asserted that the Pentagon had no intention of withdrawing its 2,500 troops stationed in Iraq.

According to the important US newspaper, Biden and Al Kazemi will agree to change the combat mission and keep troops for advising, logistics and training.

Demands for a US withdrawal from the Arab country gained strength after the assassinations of Iranian general Qassen Soleimani and the deputy commander of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units, Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes, perpetrated by the US air force.

The White House maintains a military presence in the region under the pretext of preventing the resurgence of the terrorist Islamic State, although experts say that the real mission is to protect Washington’s interests and Israel’s expansionist policy on the occupied Palestinian territory.
