Initial claims for state jobless benefits increased 51,000 to a seasonally adjusted 419,000 for the week ended July 17, the highest level since mid-May.
The Labor Department´s figure is the highest reported for jobless insurance in two months, an indicator that has shrunk since January after reaching 900,000 max.
It was also reported that there were 3.23 million people receiving this social benefit, compared to 3.26 million in previous week.
The weekly jobless figure, reaching an unprecedented 6.8 million in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, gradually declined, but present numbers indicate a pause on the labor market recovery.
