Italian campaign to help Cuba in the peak of Covid-19 pandemic

Rome, Jul 22 (Prensa Latina) Italy's General Confederation of Labor (CGIL) on Thursday joined the campaign to collect funds, medical materials and medicines to help Cuba fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

The president of the Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange with Cuba (AICEC), Michele Curto, confirmed to Prensa Latina the incorporation to the initiative of the main Italian trade union center, whose support will be allocated to the Cuban Workers’Confederation (CTC).

Associations and other institutions from different sectors participate in the project, promoted by AICEC and the National Coordinator of Cubans Resident in Italy (CONACI).

Both organizations dedicate such efforts to the memory of Lester Cabrera and Graciliano Diaz, Cuban healthcare collaborators who helped fight the pandemic in Italy, and died in Cuba saving lives from Covid-19.

Supporting the initiative are the Community of San Egidio, an important lay movement of Catholic inspiration, the Italian Recreational and Cultural Association (ARCI) in the regions of Umbria and Piedmont, Our America-Italian Chapter of the Network in Defense of Humanity and the La Villeta Solidarity Association for Cuba, among others.

The campaign is supported by Italian companies and the United Nations Development Program’s Articulated Platform for Comprehensive Territorial Development.
