The statement was published after a meeting of Russian diplomats, chaired by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, to comprehensively analyze the state and prospects for the development of bilateral relations.
According to the text, Washington is to blame for the unprecedented worsening of relations between the two states in recent years.
It denounced that Russia is under systemic pressure to which the United States adds its allies, bringing a strong ideological component to the confrontation with Moscow.
Such a line from Washington, which flagrantly violates international law, will continue meeting firm opposition, in the context of defending the legitimate interests of the Russian Federation,’ Lavrov assured.
However, the meeting acknowledged that the summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joseph Biden, held on June 16 in Geneva, Switzerland, opened up opportunities to reestablish constructive dialogue in certain areas of common interests.
‘Of course, such interaction can be successful only if the principles of mutual respect, equality and non-intervention in the internal affairs are observed,’ the Russian Foreign Minister emphasized.
The document said Russian diplomats identified priority areas for strengthening Moscow-Washington relations.
