Death toll rises to 25 in Chinese province flooded by rains

Beijing, Jul 21 (Prensa Latina) The death toll due to the most devastating downpours in 60 years rose to 25 in Henan province (central China), and authorities warned about a probable increase in that indicator because seven people are still missing.

According to latest update, 12 of the victims died as a result of floods inside a subway line in Henan’s capital, Zhengzhou, where the biggest damage has been reported in transport, electricity and telecommunications.

The number of victims from the storm also increased to more than 1.24 million, while nearly 200,000 were relocated to safer areas and 600 patients in serious conditions were transferred to several hospitals.

Images released in local media show water up to the waist of pedestrians, places without electricity and the destruction of vehicles and buildings.

According to the weather station, since last Saturday, Zhengzhou along has reported 617 millimeters of rainfall, thus exceeding its own annual average of 657 millimeters and the city is on the way to higher numbers because bad weather conditions will continue until Monday.
