Belize calls for immediate end to US blockade against Cuba

Belmopan, Jul 21 (Prensa Latina) Belize on Tuesday called for the immediate ending of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, the one tightened during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement, Belize noted that the US blockade is a serious violation of international law, as repeatedly confirmed by overwhelming votes at the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

Economic and commercial sanctions applied unilaterally and illegally by Washington have caused incalculable suffering to the Cuban people, Belizean government condemned.

It emphasized that the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have increased due to the impacts of the US sanctions, described as ‘immoral and inhuman.’

‘Belizean Government calls for the immediate lifting of the US blockade so that the Cuban people can live in peace and dignity and continue developing on their own terms with no interference,’ the statement concluded.
