China declares maximum alert for downpours and typhoons

Beijing, Jul 20 (Prensa Latina) China declared the maximum alert for most of its territory due to the danger posed by the continuation of torrential downpours and the arrival of two typhoons, accompanied by electrical discharges and gales.

The National Meteorological Center forecast up to 280 millimeters of rainfall between the present time and tomorrow for the provinces of Henan, Hebei, Shanxi, Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan.

The Center urged the authorities of the provinces to take due precautions and suspend outdoor activities in dangerous areas because there is a high probability of floods and landslides.

The provinces of Guangdong, Zhejiang and Fujian were also urged to have contingency plans ready to minimize the impact of the typhoons Cempaka and In-Fa when they reach their territories.

The proximity of the events made it necessary to cancel at least 219 flights, evacuate thousands of tourists, interrupt maritime traffic and fishing activities.
