Popular vigil awaits anniversary of Nicaragua Revolution

Managua, Jul 19 (Prensa Latina) With a popular vigil, thousands of Nicaraguans on Monday welcomed the 42nd anniversary of the triumph of the Sandinista Popular Revolution, in parties that had their epicenter at Plaza de la Fe in Managua.

The same celebration was repeated in cities and towns of the 15 departments and the two autonomous regions in which the largest country in Central America is divided.

After the Cuban Revolution, the Nicaraguan Revolution was the only one that came to power through the armed struggle, on July 19, 1979, then lost it in elections in 1990 and returned again to power in 2006.

This time, the celebration for the revolutionary victory coincides with the 60th anniversary of the founding of its leading political force, the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN).

Sandinista militants, with whom Prensa Latina spoke, said they are anxiously awaiting the words by Daniel Ortega, President of the Republic and Secretary General of the FSLN, when there are just one month to the beginning of the electoral campaign ahead of the November 7 general elections.
