Dr. Francisco Duran, national director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), explained that the total number of contagions since March 2020 has risen to 288,392.
The expert regretted the deaths of 61 patients in the last 24 hours, so the death toll increased to 1,966 during the 16-month pandemic in Cuba.
In his regular press briefing on television, Dr. Duran mentioned a total of 1,270 minors (people under 20) infected with the virus, including 1,178 pediatric patients, 65 are newborns, and 35 of them are under six months of age.
‘In July, Cuba reported 15,275 children and adolescents with Covid-19, accounting for an average of 847 children every 24 hours,’ the expert added.
He pointed out that 59,434 people are in hospitals nationwide, including 19,172 suspected cases, 5,687 under epidemiological surveillance and 34,575 active patients with the coronavirus.
‘The latest figure shows a decrease in more than 4,000 cases in the last few hours; but it does not mean relaxing measures or lowering care,’ Dr. Duran said.
To date, 34,268 patients are clinically stable.
