Iran clarifies stance on prisoner swap with US

Tehran, Jul 18 (Prensa Latina) Iran noted on Sunday that there is no link between the prisoner swap with the United States and the negotiations to save the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or nuclear deal, which are taking place in Vienna, Austria.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh noted that there is no relation between those two issues as Washington claims.

‘Outrageous’=the US denying simple fact that ‘there IS an agreed deal on the matter of the detainees,’ the Foreign Ministry spokesman wrote on his Twitter account.

Khatibzadeh explained that the new agreement reached with Washington and London to exchange 10 prisoners has no relation with the JCPOA.

The Iranian diplomat’s statements respond to those made by US Department of State Spokesman Ned Price, who rejected the agreement on that exchange.

Price wanted to link the two issues when he said that Washington will continue the negotiations to exchange the prisoners, but it is waiting for the resumption of the talks on the nuclear issue.
