Cuban president mourns death of Eastern Army’s chief

Havana, Jul 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Sunday mourned the recent death of Division General Agustin Peña, chief of the Eastern Army, and sent his condolences to his family, friends and combatants.

On his official Twitter account, the president wrote that the news is very painful and sad.

On Saturday, the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) informed on Division General Peña’s death.

Peña was born on July 29, 1963, in eastern Holguin province. He joined the Ministry through the Camilo Cienfuegos military schools and during his stay in the institution, he held several positions, such as squadron leader, company officer and tank squad chief.

He was in charge of the military regions in Granma and Holguin (east), and Ciego de Avila (center), and directed the Army’s Logistics Department.

Peña was promoted to the rank of Division General in 2020, participated as a delegate in the 8th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), held in April this year, and was elected a member of its Central Committee.
