According to the Kremlin, in a telephone conversation with US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, who is visiting Moscow, Putin stressed the importance to achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement.
He also advocated for ‘depoliticized and professional dialogue’ about the issue, the Russian Presidency’s press service stated.
During the conversation, Kerry provided information to the head of State about the meetings he held with his Russian colleagues, at which they discussed several aspects of the international climate agenda.
The diplomat drew attention on the ‘important signal’ Kerry’s trip to Moscow meant for the reduction of tensions with the United States and ‘the establishment of substantive and professional work in areas where we can find common denominators.’
Kerry was also received by Special Presidential Representative on Climate Issues, Ruslan Edelgeriyev, with whom he discussed ‘the possibility of developing more ambitious climate goals, included opportunities and challenges in the fields of energy, forestry and other issues,’ he posted on his Twitter account.
