Dr. Francisco Duran, national director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), explained that 29 people died on Monday due to complications related to the disease, so the death toll increased to 1,608.
On Monday, all Cuban molecular biology laboratories made 38,721 PCR tests in real time to detect the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, totaling 5,628,936 sample so far.
In his regular press briefing on television, Dr. Duran pointed out that 63,155 active patients are in hospitals nationwide, including 62,942 who are clinically stable, 119 who are seriously ill and 94 who are in a critical condition.
Cuba’s chief epidemiologist reported 1,047 children (people under 20) with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, including 871 in pediatric ages, and warned that more than 800 daily cases have been reported in July. According to MINSAP, 3,662 people were discharged from Cuban hospitals on Monday, so the number of recuperated patients rose to 212,023.
Matanzas is the most hit province by the disease, with 1,468 cases reported in the last few hours, followed by Havana (691), Ciego de Avila (637) and Santiago de Cuba (415).
Upon informing about the progress of the immunization process with the vaccine candidates, Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus, developed by the Finlay Vaccine Institute (IFV); and Abdala (CIGB-66), engineered by the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB), the specialist said that 7,507,406 doses of those vaccines have been administered so far.
