Despite the Ever Given container ship blocked the canal for six days, revenue in the first half of 2021 marked a 8.6-percent increase, around three billion dollars, compared to 2.76 billion dollars during the same period last year, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) said in a communique.
In the last six months, 9,763 ships with 610.1 million tons of cargo have passed through the canal.
Built between 1859 and 1869, the 163-kilometer long Suez Canal is a man-made sea-level waterway, connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea.
