In April, the NRA updated the method to estimate the standard seismic ground movement, the maximum acceleration of anticipated ground movements in nuclear power plants and their surroundings, Asahi Shimbun daily reported on Thursday.
However, Kyushu claimed that there is no need to calculate the numbers for the Genkai nuclear power plant again, which can still withstand high levels of telluric movements.
The NRA rejected the claim by the public services company and said that some future earthquakes might exceed the previous estimation.
Therefore, the company will have to calculate the standard ground movement of any earthquake again for the Genkai plant to recover its operation license.
