‘As a society we must commit ourselves that Peru in the following years is based on gender equality, inclusion and respect for diversity’ as the best way to honor the anniversary. He added the coronavirus really affects Peruvian women as well as other pandemic: gender violence, ‘which unfortunately in its most serious aspect, femicide, continues to be a social ill we must fight,’ the president stated.
Sagasti highlighted Peruvian women´s involvement in the country´s development, such as the fact that most of the members of the Council of State are women, something unprecedented in Peruvian history.
He added that the Congress of the Republic, elected last April and to be established on July 28, will be made up of 40% of women.
Arce also recognized that although these are significant achievements, ‘we must recognize that we have a lot to do.’
