Dominican court postpones trial of those involved in Odebrecht case

Santo Domingo, Jul 8 (Prensa Latina) The First Collegiate Court of the Dominican National District again postponed the trial of the six defendants in the Odebrecht case.

The hearing was postponed for the fourth time to give Samir Enriquez, witness of the accused Roberto Rodriguez, the opportunity to appear in court. He did not appear on Thursday and sent an excuse to the court.

The court also informed that the trial will continue on Monday, and as soon as Enriquez’s hearing concludes, it will give way to a pending witness of another defendant, in this case Andres Bautista.

Subsequently, Conrado Pittaluga’s defense will continue with the presentation of its documentary and testimonial evidence, after which the evidence presentation phase will end.

The Odebrecht case has been ongoing in this country since 2017, and the defendants are being tried for receiving bribes from this Brazilian construction company for the award of state works worth 92 million dollars.

This comapny reached an agreement with the Attorney General’s Office to pay the country 184 million dollars in several installments, the double of the amount of the bribes.
