‘Taking into account the development of the epidemiological situation, rather quick and sometimes harsh measures are needed in a number of regions,’ the press chief warned; however, he said that such measures as closing borders will probably not be supported.
Peskov explained that the heads of the regions have special powers and ‘depending on the development of the situation, they make independent decisions,’ he noted.
The national healthcare authorities on Tuesday reported 737 deaths from Covid-19, the highest number recorded in a single day since the onset of the pandemic in the country, accumulating 139,316 deaths.
On Monday, 23,378 infections were registered, bringing the total to 5,658,672 Covid-19 cases, an uptick of 0.41 percent over the previous day.
