In one of Cuba’s at-risk territories, which on Tuesday registered over 200 Covid-19 cases, the immunization process is extending satisfactorily, and aims to reach over 200,000 people with the three doses of the vaccine candidate, whose effectiveness is 92.28 percent.
Sonia Resik, head of the Virology Department of the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine, and chief of this health intervention told Adelante Digital website, ‘the most important thing is to continue complying with the containment measures; and being extremely careful with the vaccine candidate, which has not yet finished the certification by the regulatory entity.’
Although the south of the province was recently threatened by tropical storm Elsa, the healthcare authorities assured that they have all the infrastructure ready to preserve the correct course of the health intervention, as stated by Sonia Gonzalez, head of the Primary Health Care session.
The management and control by the healthcare authorities, supported by professionals from the University of Medical Sciences in the fight against the pandemic, allows the development of the process in a city 540 kilometers east of Havana.
In statements to Prensa Latina, the specialist assured that the plan is to reach 280 vaccination sites in the municipality, where it is expected to immunize most of the population of a city with over 320,000 inhabitants.
