The second phase of that process will take place this rainy season, as planned, Bekele said at the end of a visit to the hydroelectric mega project built since 2011 on the Blue Nile River.
He also commented that the construction of the GERD ‘is progressing well, according to the established objectives, and more than 80 percent of the work has already been completed with the required technical quality.’
On the other hand, Head of the Metekel Zone Command Post of the National Defense Force, Lieutenant General Asrat Denero, announced that the army remains alert, it protects the safety of the dam every day and is ready to safeguard the second filling.
Since its construction began ten years ago, the dam has caused disagreements, especially between Ethiopia and Egypt, and although in 2014 they began negotiations along with Sudan to determine how to exploit it, their differences remain unresolved.
