The use of these products and agents allows to keep a favorable balance in agroecosystems, said Yordano Alambares, expert in Plant Protection Policy, from the Agriculture Ministry´s Plant Health Division.
In conversation with Prensa Latina, Alambares also pointed out that biological control agents are divided into several groups such as: entomopathogenic fungi, antagonist fungi, entomopathogenic bacteria, viruses, entomopathogenic nematodes, parasitoids and predators.
Among production and use advantages of these means are that they constitute natural organisms not harmful to the environment.
Alambares highlighted that the use of these products and agents provide sovereignty and food safety, since healthy and chemical-free crops are obtained.
For this reason, they are considered as organic products, having a higher price in the international market.
This activity plays a key role in the integrated pest control and in response to the deficit of chemical pesticides, which Cuba cannot acquire, fundamentally due to the economic, commercial and financial US blockade, Alambares stressed.
