The state funeral in honor of the first Zambian president, who died on June 17, was attended, among other dignitaries, by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Kenya’s Uhuru Kenyatta and Ghana’s Nana Akufo-Addo, local media reported.
Previously, Vice President Inonge Wina announced that prior to the former president’s burial, which will be on July 7 at the capital’s Embassy Park cemetery, Kaunda’s lifeless body will be taken to the country’s ten provinces.
That way, the people could pay tribute to the founding president, who ruled Zambia from 1964 to 1991, she said.
Leaders from the African continent and other regions of the world praised Kaunda’s anti-colonialist trajectory, in favor of racial equality, among other values, such as the right to freedom.
