Mexico, France to fight illicit trafficking in cultural assets

Mexico, Jul 2 (Prensa Latina) Mexico and France will fight the illicit trafficking of cultural assets, so they signed an agreement in this regard during Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard's visit to Paris, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

According to a press release, the agreement on cultural assets is very advanced, as it will allow the two countries to report everything concerning those values, and the rules and norms that must be observed in their treatment.

For Mexico, said the communiqué, whic quoted Ebrard, it is especially important for the recovery of its heritage and because it is in the celebration of 200 years of independence, 500 years of the beginning of colonization and 700 years of the founding of Mexico-Tenochtitlan.

It added that the importance of the recovery and protection of cultural assets in Mexico, which is a great cause for the country, is understood.

It is a pleasure that France, on this occasion, is also accompanying and supporting this initiative, although our legal systems are very different and we have not always had the same position, Ebrard said.

But this agreement that we have signed, he added, is very positive and we appreciate the support from the government of President (Emmanuel) Macron and Foreign Minister Le Drian.

The Mexican foreign Minister thanked France this year for sending several very important pieces to Mexico, which will be exhibited in the country on the occasion of the above mentioned commemorations.

He said that Mexico and France are in a very special moment of relations, rapprochement and joint actions in the multilateral and bilateral fields.
