The talks focused on strategic relations, bilateral cooperation and the political process to solve the Syrian crisis, the presidency informed in a press release.
The text noted that the two parties agreed to prioritize the extension of cooperation in all areas that contribute to the achievement of the interests of the two friendly peoples.
Al-Assad and Lavrentiev also discussed the latest developments in the situation in the Middle East and Russia’s efforts to support the Syrian people in the face of terrorism and sanctions.
Syria’s president extolled the Russian position that respects the principles of international law, the sovereignty of the States and the will of their peoples, as well as prioritizes dialogue as the sole premise to find solutions to the problems and crises in the world.
Both Al-Assad and Lavrentiev also discussed the preparations for the next meeting of the Astana process, and stressed the need to continue working on this path without any external interference.
