Storms leave over 145,000 Czechs without power

Prague, Jun 30 (Prensa Latina) At least 145,000 people were left without electricity service on Wednesday, due to storms that hit the Czech Republic and interrupted railway service in several regions, local media reported.

Branches and fallen trees hindered road traffic, especially on the D1 highway, on the outskirts of the capital, government sources reported, quoted by Radio Prague International.

This time, no injuries were reported, following the onslaught of the atmospheric phenomena of the past 24 hours, according to the same source.

At least five people were killed, and some 200 people were treated in hospitals on June 25 due to a storm, which came with a tornado, in the Czech region of South Moravia.

Units of the Integrated Rescue System, with search and rescue teams, known here as USAR, were supported by the army to overcome the damage caused by the weather event, Radio Praga International reported then.

Austria and Slovakia also sent ambulances and helicopters to support the rescue of the victims, 45 of whom were initially hospitalized in the city of Hodonin and 14 in Breclav.
