The committee will be in charge of analyzing both facts and causes of the attack and will report recommendations to prevent similar events in future, Pelosi said in a statement after introducing her proposal.
According to the resolution, the committee will be made up of 13 members, eight of whom will be appointed by Pelosi. The rest of the members will be picked in consultation with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, a Republican.
Local media reported on Monday that Nancy Pelosi is envisaging including a Republican congressman on her own initiative in order to give the committee a greater credibility.
The decision to continue probing comes six months after Jan. 6 Capitol riot, an incident that left five people dead while former President Donald Trump´s followers were trying to prevent Congress from endorsing Biden´s electoral victory.
Back in May, the House passed a legislation to establish a committee similar to the panel that analyzed the 9/11 terrorist attack, but the proposal failed to get the 60 votes necessary to move on.
