Germany calls for direct talks between EU and Russia

Berlin, Jun 28 (Prensa Latina) German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday called for a direct talks between the European Union (EU) and Russian President Vladimir Putin, local television reported. Instead of making internal debates about the situation in Russia, the EU should seek a direct meeting with Putin, the German leader considered when speaking in a video conference in the French-German Parliamentary Assembly.

During the meeting, with 50 members of National Assembly (French lower chamber) and the same number of members of the Bundestag (parliament), Merkel stated that in a future EU-Russia summit all problems must be dealt with.

It must include matters that worry us and those where we want to develop cooperation, Merkel commented when asked by the local reporters.

In a recent summit in Brussels, the community bloc lacked consensus to pass a French-German proposal to hold a summit between the 27 countries of the group and Russia.
