These electric tractors that make use of photovoltaic solar energy were brought in through Camilo Cienfuegos Electronic Industry Company, a leading company in renewable energy sources. The tractors will be validated by the Institute of Agricultural Engineering, an institution in charge of certifying technologies used for agriculture.
The 25G-model tractors -manufactured in India under Farmtrac brand-, arrived in Cuba thanks to India-Spain joint collaboration.
As reported by MINAG, these electric tractors have a lithium ion accumulator with a nominal power of 21.6 kilowatts (kW) hour, allowing them to reach up to 18.5 kW, similar to a 25-hp tractor.
Therefore, MINAG added, these tractors show technical conditions for their introduction in Cuba and allow the country´s agricultural activity in the future, without the current high dependence on fossil fuels for agricultural development.
