Headquartered on the university campus, in the central province of Villa Clara, SICTE SA is the first experience of a Cuban commercial company that has two universities as shareholders: Marta Abreu (95 percent) and Tecnológica de La Habana José Antonio Echeverría ( 5.0 percent).
Inaugurated in October 2020, the creation of SICTE S.A. has allowed the commercialization of goods, services and technology transfer to different sectors of the Cuban economy, stressed Quevedo, its director.
It has also strengthened the university-business link and stimulated the scientific community to carry out new research tasks to meet the demands for the socioeconomic development of Cuba.
The also doctor in Sciences highlighted that, being a commercial company with totally Cuban capital, this system of Science, Technology and Innovation is called upon to play a decisive role in the processes of innovation and technology transfer, with a considerable impact on the productive sector.
He highlighted that in just months of existing SICTE S.A. it already has the first effective contract, signed with the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, in terms of comprehensive research and innovation projects linked to the development priorities of the agency on a national scale.
He also indicated that another of the company’s missions is to transfer technologies, promote consultancies and advisory services, without losing sight of the need to commercialize other details of research and academic services, both internally and abroad.
