One of the enthusiastic reactions came from Prime Minister and leader of the Prosperity Party, Abiy Ahmed, who congratulated the Ethiopians for discipline during the elections and considered Monday’s vote historic.
We successfully held credible and fair elections, led by an independent electoral board. Our country won. There was a great participation and the people elected without pressure, Ahmed stated at a message.
For her part, NEBE Chairperson Birtukan Mideksa stressed that ‘the election proceeded peacefully, without security concerns and with a high voter turnout’, despite some difficulties.
According to the NEBE, the vote count began on Monday evening and, when it concludes in every polling station or district, the electoral authorities guarantee the publication of the preliminary results in public spaces.
The certified result will be revealed nationwide on the tenth day after the election day, the Board announced.
