The Emir also called on world leaders for increased cooperation to achieve a ‘just and comprehensive distribution of the vaccine in a manner that would pave the way for establishing an integrated global social and economic system in line with the sustainable global development goals to achieve wellbeing and stability to our peoples.’ Al Thani said in a videoconference, as part of the opening session of the Qatar Economic Forum.

‘We must cooperate to reduce the gap between developed and developing countries especially to have access to the coronavirus vaccine and to counteract pandemic´s consequences,’ he added.

In this regard, Al Thani remarked Doha´s assistance to more than 80 nations and international bodies including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization.

Regarding the national vaccination program, Al Thani said that approximately 65% of Qatari people has been vaccinated, thus accounting for about three million doses applied.

‘The pandemic has once again raised important questions about relationship of modern societies with nature, expectations of society in public health policies, State-economy-global cooperation relation to face challenges going beyond borders, nationalities and cultures,’ he warned.

Even though ‘the world has not yet moved to a post-pandemic phase in the shadow of waves of renewed Covid-19 variants and mutations,’ Al Thani was positive about a report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) issued in April showing a 6% increased global economy this year.
