On his official Twitter account, the foreign minister ratified Cuba’s support for the Portuguese diplomat to strengthen the multilateral system, promote international peace and security, and uphold the goals and principles of the UN Charter.
The UN General Assembly on Friday confirmed the reelection of Guterres, who was sworn in for a second term in that post for five years, until December 31, 2026.
After serving as prime minister of Portugal (1995-2002) and UN High Commissioner for Refugees (2005-2015), the diplomat became secretary general of the multilateral body in January 2017, when he replaced Ban Ki-moon, from South Korea.
