The 20-item agenda released today recalls community governments their responsibility to save lives and protect the rights of migrants and refugees who choose the dangerous Mediterranean route.
Based on five main lines of action, it includes resuming search and rescue operations, as well as creating disembarkation and relocation mechanisms.
The plan also includes detecting human rights violations where they occur. This was revealed prior to a regional bloc’s meeting on June 24 and 25 to discuss the common immigration policy.
The document was signed by Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and the European Council on Refugees and Exiles.
Meanwhile, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) informed that more than 800 migrants and refugees have died in the Mediterranean Sea this year.
