The criminal and unjust blockade imposed by imperialism against our two nations represents two sides of the same coin, Mohammed Abdul Halim Yarry, head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, said during his meeting at the headquarters of the Legislative Assembly with Cuban Ambassador Miguel Porto Parga.
The Syrian parliamentarian ratified the solid and historic friendship relations and advocated for strengthening them with parliamentary visits and cooperation in different fields.
The Friendship Group includes 20 parliamentarians and is the largest one among the 28 existing, which shows the Syrian people’s sympathy, support and respect to Cuba and the great importance Parliament attaches to the development of ties with Cuba, Yarry said in statements to Prensa Latina during the meeting.
Syria and Cuba are countries with strong institutions founded and strengthened by leaders Hafez al-Asad and Fidel Casto, and hence their firmness and resistance that frustrated the plans aimed at breaking and undermining their sovereign positions arose, he said.
Syria and Cuba established diplomatic relations on August 11, 1965, and both nations maintain a high level of coordination and mutual support in international forums.
