Máximo Torero, FAO´s chief economist presented a document from the perspective ‘Transformation of food-farming systems: moving from strategy to action.’
On how to face challenges for producing enough food and at the same time protecting the whole planet was an issue also debated during the meeting.
Upon introducing the document, Torero detailed that ahead of the Covid-19 pandemic, as many as 690 million people worldwide are going hungry, despite the FAO progress in last 75 years and also bearing in mind that as many food produced globally would be quite enough to feed the entire population.
Millions of people lack micronutrients and the number of overweight people of all ages, social classes and countries is going up frighteningly, while the pandemic further worsened such a situation.
