During the last weeks, the specialists have provided support and monitoring mechanisms across the country, in order to keep infrastructures and computerized methods safe, and they will continue these tasks after the elections.
We prioritize some institutions in particular because they are key to Ethiopians and the nation at large, among them the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), INSA Director-General Shumetie Gizaw recently said.
The elections should have taken place in August 2020, but the House of People’s Representatives (Parliament) postponed them due to Covid-19. In September 2020, the legislative body reconsidered that decision and decided to hold them in the current fiscal year.
Later, in December 2020, it proposed to hold them on June 5, but due to delays and irregularities in the voters’ register, the NEBE decided to postpone them until June 21.
According to the latest official reports, more than 36 million Ethiopians must vote on Monday, June 21, when 46 political parties are competing for seats in Parliament and regional councils.
