Chinese Corporation denies irregularities, gas leak at nuclear plant

Beijing, Jun 15 (Prensa Latina) China's General Nuclear Power Corporation on Tuesday denied reports about an alleged gas leak and other irregularities at the Taishan plant in Guangdong province, after ensuring that the plant is operating normally.

As it detailed in a communique, the nuclear power plant does not register technical or environmental alterations and since it began commercial services with its two reactors, it has always operated in accordance with established procedures.

These reactors are a joint venture of the Chinese Corporation and Electricite de France (EDF). Each reactor is capable of generating 1,750 megawatts and the first of them has been in operation since December 2018.

The second reactor went into operation in September 2019 and a complete review allowed to corroborate its good safety, quality and power status, the text added.

CNN informed on Monday that the US Government has been assessing reports of a gas leak at the Taishan nuclear plant, after French engineering company Framatome, which is owned by EDF, warned of an ’eminent radiological danger.’
